Toyota Confirms UK Pricing and Specs of New Yaris Hybrid

The new Toyota Yaris Hybrid will offer market-leading CO2 emissions of 79g/km, fuel economy of 80.7mpg, with a UK starting price below £15,000. It’s official.

The CO2 figure of just 79g/km delivers real running cost benefits for drivers. It means Yaris Hybrid qualifies for free road tax (VED) in the UK, and is exempt from the London congestion charge. For company car drivers, the record low CO2 emissions fall well within the lowest Benefit In Kind (BIK) taxation band of 10%.

The new Yaris Hybrid shows Toyota doing what it does best, providing market-leading technology at an affordable price. Yaris Hybrid will be available in the UK for less than £15,000 on-the-road, making it the most reasonably priced hybrid on sale in the UK.

The 99bhp Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain (pictured below) offers a unique combination of economy and power in a small hatchback. And all this without requiring the customer to compromise on comfort features such as air-conditioning and automatic transmission, which are fitted to the car as standard – more details announced here.

Part of the genius of the full hybrid system is minimising the time on any given journey when the petrol engine is running. These “zero-emission” periods can be as much as one third of a typical urban journey. Yaris Hybrid is the most CO2 efficient combustion engine vehicle in the mainstream market.

As we announced earlier this month, Yaris Hybrid will debut at the 2012 Geneva motor show, alongside GT 86 and the FT-Bh and Toyota diji concepts. It is available for pre-order from Western Toyota now, with customer deliveries from 1 July.

Toyota Confirms Pricing and Specs of New Prius Plug-in Hybrid

The new plug-in hybrid version of the Toyota Prius will arrive in UK showrooms at a slightly higher price than what the Japanese automaker originally estimated.

Back in September of 2011, Toyota had said that the Prius Plug-in would cost less than £31,000 and under £26,000 if you include the £5,000 government subsidy. Today we learn that the final on-the-road price for the plug-in model is £32,895, which falls to £27,895 with the £5,000 Government grant available on new vehicle purchases through the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).

The Prius Plug-in is offered in a single equipment grade that includes several amenities such as LED daytime running lights and headlights, a Toyota Touch and Go Plus system with touchscreen controls, satellite navigation, voice recognition, rear-view camera and Bluetooth, a DAB digital tuner with an eight-speaker JBL sound system, rain-sensing wipers and cruise control.

Heated front seats, 15-inch alloy wheels with wheel caps and leather steering wheel trim are also included as standard.
On the options list you'll find black leather upholstery (£1,500), rear privacy glass (£270), a Protection Pack (rear parking sensors and boot liner) and a Style Pack (exterior chrome trim elements), both at £360.

The plug-in version of the Prius allows the driver to recharge the car's battery in 90 minutes through the use of a conventional plug offering an extended pure-electric driving range of up to 15.5 miles or 25 kilometers.

With the use of the battery, the Prius Plug-in delivers a fuel economy of 134.mpg UK (equal to 112mpg US or 2.1lt/100km) with CO2 emissions of 49g/km of CO2. Once the battery is depleted, it returns 76.4mpg UK (63.6mpg US or 3.7lt/100km) and CO2 emissions of 85g/km.

Fleet News Awards honour Toyota as "Greenest Manufacturer"

Greenest Manufacturer award 2012

Toyota’s success in designing and building cleaner, more efficient cars has earned it the title of “Green Manufacturer of the Year” in the Fleet News Awards. The accolade reflects not only the impact of its industry-leading hybrid model range, but also its manufacturing strategy, which targets the reduction of energy and natural resources usage, waste and emissions.

In making the award, the judges commented: “Toyota’s single-minded focus on hybrid is really paying off with models offering outstanding levels of efficiency and low emissions.

“Its relentless approach to environmental initiatives also extends inwards with solar panels and recycling maximising the efficiency of its factories. Toyota is an environmental beacon not just for the motor industry, but for every industry.”

Toyota enjoyed further success at the awards, presented in London last night (21 March), with Land Cruiser being named the year’s “Best All-Round 4×4”. The judges remarked: “Land Cruiser is the perfect choice for fleets looking for a 4×4 workhorse that is equally at home lugging equipment or towing trailers around on-road as it is tackling the trickiest of off-road routes. It also has low running costs for this category of vehicle making it perfect for utility and bluelight fleets.”

This year Toyota will reach new milestones in reducing emissions and increasing efficiency with introduction of a series of new models. The Prius “family” will be extended to include Prius+, Europe’s first seven-seat full hybrid MPV, with tax-busting sub-100g/km CO2 emissions; and Prius Plug-in, equipped with a rechargeable battery pack for greater zero-emissions driving capability and lower running costs.

Yaris Hybrid will also be launched this summer, introducing the benefits of full hybrid power to the supermini market for the first time, including 79g/km CO2 emissions and 80mpg combined fuel economy.

Ewan Shepherd, General Manager Toyota/Lexus Fleet Services said: “We are delighted to win these awards, they are independent recognition of the importance we attach to achieving environmental leadership. Our commitment can be seen in the fact that not only do we offer the most diverse range of hybrid vehicles on the market, we are continuing to develop the technology and make it accessible to even more customers by adding new models that meet a wider spectrum of customer needs.
